How to create a fresh smell in a steamer trunk??

I have a trunk from the 1960's and it now has a closed-up smell inside. I have tried Febreze a couple of times and that didn't work. Then I tried a potpourri sachet and that also didn't work.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can freshen up the inside of this trunk.
I use it to store extra blankets and pillows.

Go to Lowes and buy a cedar block, it will make it smell great. They are very inexpensive.
